If you’ve never been to the Krivoy Rog Botanical Garden, then you’re missing out on some of the most beautiful scenery to be found. This garden is over 52 hectares and has a collection of herbarium species, as well as one of the largest collections of endangered plants to be found. Taking a day - or several - to wander the pathways, over lawns, and through the flower gardens will surely become a highlight of any trip to the area - and it remains a solace for those who live nearby.
The garden can be visited year-round, although spring and summer do offer visitors the chance to appreciate the beautiful displays of florals, as well as an abundance of sweet scents. Autumn provides a different display to visitors, as fiery reds, glowing oranges, warm browns, and brilliant yellows dominate the landscape. In poor weather, the herbarium and greenhouses are available to shelter in while still getting the chance to have an enjoyable time.
History of the garden
The botanical garden was the creation of Professor Eugene Kondratiuk. He worked tirelessly at creating it and in 1989 the Botanical Garden in Krivoy Rog was acknowledged as a branch of the Donetsk Botanical Garden.
In 1992, the gardens became the home base of the Kryvoriz'ka institution of the National Academy of Sciences, which is why there are so many unusual species of plants found within. These plants include over 600 shrubs and trees, and over 60 species of plants are listed in the Red Book of Ukraine. There are over 200 medicinal plants, and thousands of different flowering species to view as well.
Beauty everywhere
The variety of white kale, golden sleep-grass, spring Adonis, tulips and Ukrainian poppies adorn beds in every direction and are particularly appealing to view in spring. Spring is also the best time to view over 50 species of lilacs, which fill the air with their heady floral scent. You can even lie amongst them while your children play and you enjoy the apuestas deportivas Chile offers on your phone.
The crown of the garden
While all areas of the garden have their unique appeal, the crowning glory for many is the rose garden, which has a hugely diverse variety of species. Over 100 rose species are recorded, and the brilliant colours, scents and numerous types of petals shapes that form the petticoats of the roses ensures everyone will find this area both memorable and special.
Finding your way around
As the botanical gardens are incredibly large and sprawl out over 52 hectares, it’s highly advisable to view the visitors map of the park, which demarcates all the major attractions. These include specific garden areas and the numerous greenhouses. The main avenue which cuts through the garden is clearly marked as such and following it will lead all visitors to the circular interior of the park.
Location: The Krivoy Rog Botanical Garden is located at Marshaka Street, 50.
Visitor fees: Visitors to the park will find that the cost of entry differs throughout the year, depending on the season. For those who would like a guided tour, please note that the cost to hire the guide will equate to roughly the cost of a single admission ticket.
